Stage 3Activity 4 (of 5)

Support the data collection where needed

If data collection cannot be carried out by your evaluation team, consider liaising with data collection and analysis teams – such as Business Intelligence (BI) leads and frontline staff – to ensure your data collection approach is fit for purpose.

Step 1

Establish regular meetings with the individuals responsible for data collection and analysis such as your BI leads and frontline staff. This ensures there is always ongoing communication and monitoring of your data collection activities.

Step 2

Make sure the people collecting the data review it regularly to ensure it is fit for purpose. During these reviews, the quality and relevance of the data being collected should be assessed (eg are there values missing? Is everyone who needs to submit data doing it on time?). You should also consider what your final outputs will look like – and whether the data you are collecting will allow you to complete these outputs.

Step 3

Where possible, you or your data collection lead should provide guidance and support to ensure best practice for consistent data collection.
